Being sick can be miserable. Aches and pains, itchy throat, runny or stuffed nose, throbbing head, fatigue, and an all-over blah feeling. Cold and flu remedies can help alleviate some of these symptoms.

I want to talk a little bit about how we can help ease some of the pain and symptoms naturally. You may already use some of these cold and flu remedies, I hope that maybe you can pick up a few extra ideas to help ease the symptoms!

Flu season is considered to be from October through May.

Some people take over the counter medication to help cover up the symptoms of a cold or the flu.

You should still see your doctor and ask if the natural things you’re thinking of doing will be okay along with the medication you will be or are taking.

These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA and nothing seen here is meant to diagnose, cure, prevent or treat any disease or medical condition. Please seek medical/professional help before you decide how to treat any ailment, sickness, or disease.

1st Symptom – Sore Throat

  • Gargle saltwater
  • A spoonful of Honey

A Soothing Drink

  • Juice of half a lemon
  • 1 Tsp fresh ginger or 1/2 Tsp Ground Ginger
  • 4 ounces of warm water
  • 1 Tbsp Honey

2nd Symptom – Runny nose

3rd Symptom – Fever

  • Not so natural, but a fever reducer is necessary at a certain temperature.
  • Also, very important…SLEEP!

4th Symptom – Body Aches

  • A steamy shower
  • or a hot bath with Epsom salt

5th Symptom – Stuffy Nose

I ‘ve read somewhere I can’t remember where it was…that in some instances your nose gets stuffy (sometimes on one side and sometimes both sides) to give the inflamed tissue a much-needed rest so that it can work on healing. You could ask your doctor about it. There could be other reasons why your nose is stuffy. There’s usually not just one answer to any question.

So should we try to tackle this symptom is the question? This could be why one of the reasons that over the counter medication that treat stuffy noses could cause the symptoms to last longer. I know when I work sick, it takes a little longer for me to get better, than if I had stayed home and rested a while… So maybe the same is true for our noses.

I think that if it’s keeping you from sleeping it’s a symptom that needs to be tackled. So let’s looks at a couple of options.

For a Stuffy Nose

  • Use a humidifier
  • Take a shower
  • Replenish your electrolytes and drink plenty of water
  • Saline nose spray
  • Neti Pot

 6th Symptom – Cough

I’ve had many doctors tell me (which does not substitute you talking to YOUR doctor) that only suppress a cough if it isn’t productive. If you’re hacking away and nothing is coming out, eventually your ribs will be sore, your stomach might be hurting, etc…

Also, another reason the doctor said to stop a cough productive or not, was if it was keeping you from sleeping. Again have a talk to your doctor about suppressing your cough or any of your symptoms!

For a Cough

  • We like to take a spoonful of honey. It doesn’t always work, but sometimes it does.
  • Again a steamy shower may help

Ginger-Lemon Honey Tea

An Overall Cold and Flu Remedies

I also like to take a shot of Colloidal silver water

I’m trying Oil Of Oregano this time around also. It must be diluted in a tsp or so in an oil of your choice. Or do what I did and skip that gross and spicy taste, and put it in a capsule!

To help reduce pain and discomfort

I put these in a little shot glass, mix it up and drink it. It tastes a lot like cough syrup, or maybe it just reminds me of cough syrup. This nifty little mixture really helps me feel a lot better. It feels like I took a day time OTC medicine, but without all of the “high”.

Not everyone will have the same result. We’re most likely not sick with the same exact thing. Also, talk to your doctor about taking anything like this with the past, present, or future medicines you are/will be/have been taking.

I would like to say, the thing that helps me the most is sleep. Most of the workforce must keep working in order to keep paying the bills. In that case, try to go to bed early if possible. If you are a mom or dad and cannot go to bed right away. Well, I am very sorry! I have been there done that. You will weather this storm. Eventually, it has to stop raining right? Good luck to you and prayers from me to you.

Thank you for stopping by, and I hope you feel better very soon!
