I’m finding more and more that bugs aren’t really reacting to the store-bought bug repellents. Because of this, I’ve started to make my own. Making homemade bug repellents is a very simple task. This recipe will help fend off ticks, mosquitos, and fleas. See why I choose to make DIY Roll-On Bug Repellent.
About DIY Roll-On Bug Repellent
Bug Repellent Spray Vs. Roll-On
I also have a great recipe for a bug repellent spray if you’d rather make a spray. I like to have both because the spray is nice to have a home, but I can’t shuffle around a big bottle of spray when I leave the house.
These cute little Amber Roll-On bottles (link in recipe) that I got from Amazon, are small and fit perfectly in my purse. You never know when you’re out of the house and in dire need of a little protection from the bugs.
How Well Does it Work?
My bug repellent recipe doesn’t work on all bugs or pests. It will help keep some of them at bay. For me and my family, it does a better job with the bugs than the store-bought stuff, but we still see a couple of ticks and other bugs here and there. This repellent does help reduce the amount of bugs or pests that are attacking.

Thanks for the recipe! If you add a few drops of lavender that also helps to drive away fleas, flies, and mosquitos.
You’re welcome! Really, I had no idea about the lavender. I will have to do that. Thanks so much for the tips!
how could I use this in a spray form? Just add with water?
Hey Rita, I have a spray recipe too. Check it out here —> https://homesteadwishing.com/natural-tick-mosquito-and-flea-repellent/

How does the roller work with coconut oil like that and not the fractioned coconut oil?
Ah, that’s a great idea to use fractionated Coconut oil. It’s really warm here, so most of the time my coconut oil is liquid! I will update the ingredients, for those who are in colder environments. Thank you for stopping by!
Rose Geranium will take care of the ticks. Pelaronium capitatum is the kind that really works.
Thank you Katharine for that info. I’ll look into it!
