There are some really good barbecue sauces on the market, but honestly, none of them can beat a homemade barbecue sauce. One of the best things about making your own sauce is that you probably already have the ingredients in the pantry!
I made this homemade barbecue sauce, especially for ribs. I was making some slow cooker ribs, and I wanted a sauce that could really make these ribs shine!
Cooking Ribs Low and Slow
I decided that cooking them in barbecue sauce in the slow cooker was the best idea. The slow cooker is a perfect way to cook meat low and slow and get the meat tender, tasty, and falling off the bone, just how I was craving. Check out my barbecue ribs slow cooker recipe.
Thinking about how much barbecue sauce I would have to buy, I thought it would be much cheaper to just make my own. It turns out it is pretty simple to do. My boys love this barbecue sauce. I made extra to put into a bottle so we could use it on other foods too!
Homemade Barbecue Sauce | No Sugar Added
Many brands add extra sugar in barbecue sauce. I didn’t feel like it was necessary. It’s super tasty without it. It’s not like we need any more sugar in our diet anyhow right?

How Long Will Homemade Barbecue Sauce Last?
This BBQ sauce will last about a week in the fridge. Store-bought sauces are pasteurized, and that’s one reason that they last a bit longer. However, if you want to make a recipe that will last longer, check out this canning recipe. Unopened these canned BBQ sauces should last 4-6 months.
Open jars of homemade barbecue sauce (no matter what recipe you use) should be refrigerated. The shelf life will be extended for a while longer this way.

I had no idea how easy it was to make barbecue sauce. We literally had all the ingredients. I didn’t even have to make a trip to the store, which was great because I ran out of BBQ sauce while prepping! Thanks!
Oh I’m so glad you were able to make it without having to go to the store. How wonderful is that!?!?!
