Have you ever gotten home from the grocery store and realized you forgot something on your list? I don’t know why this happens but it happens all the time. If you ever accidentally forget to buy tomato juice, it’s okay because you can make it right at home. Hopefully, you already have all the ingredients you need. Join me as we learn how to make tomato juice using pantry supplies.
If you do a quick internet search as I did, you will find out that tomato juice is usually made with tomato paste.
If you don’t have tomato paste, you can still make tomato juice using other tomato products. Although, it doesn’t turn out as good. It tends to be a little runny. However, you can use about the same formula or recipe replacing tomato paste with tomato sauce, or diced tomatoes (drained or counted as water).
What I Think Works Best For Making Tomato Juice
Overall, tomato paste makes the best consistency and provides the best taste. It’s also much easier to work with than other canned tomato products. If you don’t currently stock tomato paste and wonder why someone would, I want to give you a couple of reasons to start stocking it. Hopefully, in the near future, I can add some recipes to these.
Good Reasons To Store Tomato Paste
If you don’t currently store tomato paste, you may after you read this. Tomato paste is a very versatile tomato product that can be used in many different recipes. Here are a few ways you can use tomato paste to make delicious meals.
- Spaghetti/Marinara Sauce (Many people use tomato paste when making a marinara, but I don’t use it in my marinara recipe)
- Quick Enchilada Sauce – Which is used on my chicken enchiladas, vegetarian enchiladas, and cheese and onion enchiladas! Yum!
- Chicken Enchiladas
- Cheese and Onion Enchiladas
- Vegetarian Enchiladas
- Beef Enchiladas Recipe
- Tomato Juice
- Pizza Sauce
- Ketchup
- Tomato Flavor – Add tomato flavor to any dish. Sometimes I will add tomato paste to soups and stews.
When I decided to start stocking tomato paste, I didn’t want to buy canned tomato paste. I don’t know what it is about tomato paste in a can, but it tastes a bit metallic to me, and another reason is that some cans are lined with plastic that contains BPA’s. So I decided to try and find tomato paste in a glass jar instead.

How To Make Tomato Juice With Food Storage
In a pinch, you can learn how to make tomato juice right at home. It super easy, doesn't take a lot of ingredients, and you probably won't even need to run to the store to get ingredients!
Ingredients
- 2 jars (7oz each) of Tomato Paste
- 1-2 tsp Salt
- 3 cups Water
- Large Pitcher - Gallon Jug or Other
Additional Options For Flavoring
- Garlic Powder
- Lemon Juice
- Black Pepper
- Soy Sauce
- Bragg’s Aminos
- Worcestershire Sauce
- Celery Salt
- Vinegar
- Hot Sauce
Instructions
- Add water to the pitcher.
- Next, add the tomato paste.
- Add salt and any other flavoring you may want to try.
- Stir well, or if your container has a lid you can shake it.
- Store in refrigerator. Best if consumed within 24 hours, however, you can freeze for up to 6 months.
Notes
If the recipe turns out too thick for your liking, add more water.

My Favorite Flavors To Add To Homemade Tomato Juice
I added a list of possible flavors to add to homemade tomato juice in the recipe. Among those, my favorites are celery salt, Worcestershire sauce, black pepper, and a little bit of Bragg’s.
The simple yet lovely combination of flavors is perfect for what I want out of my tomato juice. You can always change the taste depending on what you like.
