I usually make Lasagna in the slow cooker, however, I decided to try something different. As a result, my new Instant Pot Lasagna recipe is way quicker!

Imagine, layer upon layer of homemade and perfectly seasoned meaty marinara, tons of cheese, and delicious pasta.

About Lasagna

Yes, I’m going to babble on about lasagna. It’s a little ridiculous I know, but there are some cool facts if you want to learn something. Plus, Google likes it and well…shoot me, I want my website to be found on Google!

Did you know the plural of lasagna is lasagne? In Italy when they ask for this dish they ask in the plural form, which language-wise makes more sense. I don’t know how Americans got in the habit of using the wrong version of the word. Maybe it was just a language barrier thing.

Regardless of learning that it’s actually lasagne, It’s ingrained in us to be lasagna! So that’s what I will always call it! If you want to learn more about lasagna check the Wiki page.

Ingredients

  • 12 oz oven-ready lasagna noodles
  • 2 lbs. ground beef
  • 15 oz can of crushed tomatoes
  • 15 oz can of tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp Italian herbs
  • 1 onion (diced)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 16 oz ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 cup parmesan
  • 2 cups mozzarella
  • 2 cups water

Instructions

  1. First, brown the ground beef, and sauté the onion until cooked thoroughly.
  2. Next, add the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, 1/2 garlic powder, 1/2 Italian Herbs, and salt. Mix well, and allow to simmer.
  3. Then, in a bowl mix together ricotta cheese, garlic powder, Italian herbs, and parmesan cheese.
  4. Before moving to the next step, turn the heat off and remove your marinara from the heating element.
  5. Add 1-2 cups of water to the Instant Pot pan liner. The Instant Pot will need some water to create a pressurized environment.
  6. Start with a layer of homemade marinara, then add a layer of lasagna pasta, next spread a thin layer of the ricotta cheese mixture, lastly sprinkle a bit of mozzarella. Do this until you almost have the pan filled up.End with a layer of mozzarella. Be careful not to fill the pan all the way to the top. I learned this the hard way! Pictured below, I filled this pot up way to high! The lid couldn't properly go on, and it burned and stuck to the lid.
  7. Next place pot in pot (or PIP) inside the Instant Pot Liner. Double check to make sure you added 1-2 cups of water to the liner.
  8. Pressure cook on high for 25 minutes.
  9. Allow the pressure to release naturally – otherwise, don’t manually relieve the pressure, just leave the Instant Pot alone for ten minutes after it’s done cooking.
  10. After the 10 minutes have passed, turn the pressure release valve to venting. Once the float valve drops, open the lid.
  11. Then, carefully pull out the PIP using silicone mitts, or something similar.
  12. Lastly, let lasagna rest for about 10 minutes. As a result, the extra juices will be soaked up.
  13. It’s finally time to eat this delicious Instant Pot Lasagna!

When you’re thinking about cooking lasagna in the oven, it would take what, at least 45-60 minutes?

Also, boiling the noodles, and making the sauce, that’s a lot of time…

I don’t know about you, but the slow cooker is a little too slow for cooking lasagna. Don’t get me wrong, I like cooking meat, long and slow, but lasagna?

In this case, we really don’t need to cook lasagna long and slow in order for it to be delicious!

Besides, we need quick and easy meals that are #busymama friendly.

It’s not always the quickest way of cooking food, but in this instance, it might just beat out all the competitors!
